Positive Signs For Squad Depth As Inter Milan 'Backups' Shine In 5-0 Serie A 'Steamrolling' Of Frosinone

There were very positive signs from some of Inter Milan’s “backup” players in yesterday’s Serie A win over Frosinone.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that three of Inter’s goals came from players who don’t typically start.

Both Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram got on the scoresheet yesterday evening at the Stadio Bento Stirpe.

The strike pair have certainly been Inter’s main outlet for goals throughout the season.

But in truth, they were two of the least important goals that either Martinez or Thuram will ever score.

Inter were already 3-0 up by the time that the usual suspects got themselves on the scoresheet.

“Backups” Shine For Inter In Serie A Win Vs Frosinone

The goals that actually decided yesterday’s match came from players who are not usually in the starting eleven.

First of all, midfielder Davide Frattesi showed that he is not just a player who can score dramatic late winners.

The former Sassuolo midfielder was rather the player to unlock the result for the Nerazzurri.

Frattesi capped off a fine overall display with a trademark late run into the box and then well-timed goal to tilt what had been a very evenly-balanced match in Inter’s favour.

Then, the goal that gave the Nerazzurri breathing room came via former West Ham United and Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic.

The Austrian has not exactly been a regular in the starting eleven this season. But he got his chance yesterday.

And Arnautovic showed that when given the chance, he knows where the back of the net.

Then, Inter’s third came via Canadian international wingback Tajon Buchanan.

The 25-year-old scored his first ever goal in an Inter shirt. It was an excellent curled effort into the top corner with his right foot off the left flank.

None of Frattesi, Arnautovic, or Buchanan have been among Inter’s key players this season.

But the Nerazzurri will know that next season will be a big test of their squad depth.
