Over the weekend, the Saints came marching in and upset reigning Premier League champions Manchester City to help their chances of avoiding the relegation zone.  In the seventh minute, Southampton’s James Puncheon put the Saints ahead 1-0 and celebrated his goal by wiping his backside near the corner flag.  Video evidence shows his comical act. Click here to view the video on YouTube. A goal by Steven Davis and an own goal by Gareth Barry solidified the 3-1 win, leaving City manager Roberto Mancini to concede, “I think now we have a 10% chance maybe [of winning the league].” Though they are missing captain Vincent Kompany to injury, heavy-spenders City have no excuses in not picking up three points in that kind of fixture.  But, all credit goes to Southampton and newly appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino.  If they keep playing like this, they should avoid the drop. In other Premier League news, everlasting Ryan Giggs scored in his 23rd consecutive season for Manchester United.  Giggs’s shot struck the post and the ball carried across the goal line.  That goal makes him the only player to score in every single season of the Premier League since it started in 1992.  At 39 years of age, it does not look like he’ll stop playing anytime soon. Giggs’s goal also helped United get a win over Everton and extend their lead over City to 12 points.  With only 12 games remaining, City does not look like they will be retaining the trophy come season’s end.  However, stranger things have happened in the world of Premier League soccer.  A look back at the finale of last season proves City can never be written off. -Lang
