Puyol backing Xavi at Barcelona: His words about the press was no surprise

Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has no doubts Xavi is the right coach for the club.

Doubts have been raised around Xavi after Barca's recent stumbles.

But Puyol says: "This is part of sport, there are times when you are better and others when you are worse. Let's see how we get back from the break. But I have confidence in the team and in Xavi, we will fight for everything.

"I think the club trusts in Xavi, there is no reason to doubt. I think Deco and the president trust him.

"They believe in the project and that Xavi is the person."

On Xavi's blast for the local press, Puyol also said: "When I played, already very young, I learned that you can't control opinions. You have to focus on what you can control. Social networks can also distract you, so you have to isolate yourself.

"Xavi's words didn't surprise me."
