Real Madrid are primed to sign Kylian Mbappe after he announced his exit from Paris Saint-Germain on Friday evening, but the reaction from the Spanish capital from within the club has been muted, rather than euphoric.

His announcement caught the dressing room by surprise, but they are not particularly focusing on it, as they have ‘more important things to think about’, namely the Champions League. They are delighted by the prospect of playing with Mbappe, as per Relevo, but they do not want it to distract from the final at Wembley, or the great season at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Liga celebrations programmed for Sunday.

The same outlet say that Real Madrid now fear that the news of his signing could be made official by a director at PSG, a family member or even Mbappe himself if emotions get the better of them. Los Blancos do not intend to announce his signing until June, after the Champions League final, but if the news is to emerge, they would prefer it happen just after the Liga celebration, allowing them time to recover their focus, rather than closer to the final.

The potential presentation dates are the third of June, sixth or seventh, otherwise it will be on after the Euros. Mbappe will already be on France duty by the fourth of June at the latest, with a friendly against Luxembourg. Marca also say that Real Madrid are maintaining silence on the matter and trying to altogether ignore it until their season is done.

Mbappe’s farewell was followed by him saying goodbye to the PSG ultras too, where he thanked them for their support over the years and summed up his time. During Mbappe’s video, he made a point of thanking managers Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier and Luis Enrique, as well as sporting directors Leonardo and Luis Campos. He would then go on to thank the club employees, physios, kitmen, assistants, office workers, training facility workers, ‘who are formidable people, who give everything for the club, and deserve recognition.’

It was noted that CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi was not referenced whatsoever, something that stands out given his carefully curated communication strategy. Al-Khelaifi have been involved in a number of tense negotiations with Mbappe and his family over recent years, and clearly, something has broken down in their relations.
