After a season in which Carlo Ancelotti has had just one forward that has played through the middle regularly, the Real Madrid coach looks as if he will have his pick of three next year. And that is without taking into account Vinicius Junior’s increasing ability to do damge centrally.

Endrick Felipe and Kylian Mbappe are due to arrive in July, and there is uncertainty over Joselu Mato’s future, who they have a €1.5m buy clause on with Espanyol. Despite Los Blancos telling the 33-year-old forward to consider other offers, it looks as if it is more likely he will stay.

Real Madrid intend to execute that option, and at the very least sell him at a profit. As per Matteo Moretto, the arrival of Endrick will not impact on their decision with Joselu. Some had wondered if having Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius, Brahim Diaz, and Arda Guler and the Brazilian teenager who can play in a front three might push Los Blancos into letting Joselu go. Yet Matteo Moretto has told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that as Joselu’s characteristics and those of Endrick are vastly different, there will likely still be a role for him next season.

Certainly Carlo Ancelotti has gotten plenty of use out of him this season. The Italian tactician has used Joselu where necessary, but effectively. In addition, the impact he has on defences has helped those around him. Of Jude Bellingham’s 18 La Liga goals this season, two thirds have come with Joselu playing ahead of him.
