Report: Senior Tottenham figure who was ‘adamant’ Conte should stay was gradually sidelined by the club

Fabio Paratici, the club director at Tottenham Hotspur, was reportedly against the sacking of former manager Antonio Conte, according to a recent report by the Daily Mail.

The report claims that he was adamant that the club should stick with him until the end of the season.

But the club decided to let the Italian go on Sunday, sparking speculation about who will replace him.

The report also reveals that Paratici has been gradually sidelined by the club ever since he was handed a 30-month ban from football by an Italian court, along with other Juventus officials.

Although he was able to continue his role with Spurs since the ban was only valid in Italy, FIFA has now extended the ban worldwide, which means he will no longer be able to continue with his role at the club.

The decision comes at a time when Spurs were already going through other problems.

It was previously reported that Paratici would be heading the search for Conte’s replacement.

One report suggested that Paratici was not in favor of appointing Mauricio Pochettino because of the Argentine’s preference to work only with his close staff, which would have undermined his authority.

Instead, he was reportedly keen on the appointment of former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, someone he admired.

However, with him no longer involved in the managerial decision, it will be interesting to see who the club hierarchy chooses as the new manager.

Other names linked with the job include former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.
