Reports: Harry Kane tells Tottenham he wants to leave this summer

The news Tottenham Hotspur supporters have dreaded for years dropped Monday.

Sky Sports and ESPN both report two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Harry Kane has informed Tottenham he wishes to leave the club this summer. Manchester City, the new champions of England, and both Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the England captain who also won the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly keen on selling the veteran who turns 28 years old in July to a team outside of the country.

Kane allegedly considered leaving last summer but was convinced to stay and pursue a trophy under coach Jose Mourinho, who was fired last month with the club destined to again miss out on silverware and likely to fall short of a UEFA Champions League spot for the 2021-22 campaign. The forward has three years remaining on his contract and could have a fee of approximately $212 million placed on him if he submits an official transfer request.

"We have a season to finish and we want to finish it as strongly as possible," a Tottenham spokesperson told Sky. "That's all everyone should be focussing on."

Clubs around the world have faced financial difficulties and challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, so it's unclear if even the richest teams will meet Tottenham's valuation this summer or wait one more year.

Kane and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah currently sit tied for the Premier League lead with 22 goals this season.
