Giorgio Furlani has denied that AC Milan are in talks over a deal for Joshua Zirkzee, but Fabrizio Romano has suggested that work is ongoing to sign the striker.

With Olivier Giroud out of contract in the summer and seemingly heading for Los Angeles FC, the Milan management will have to sign a new centre-forward who can lead the line for years to come.

Plenty of different names have been linked from Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres to Santiago Gimenez and Victor Boniface, but one of the names that has resisted is Zirkzee.

The Dutchman is having a breakout season in Serie A even if he has been on a bit of a scoring drought in terms of open play goals recently, and some further news has arrived on the pursuit.

Fabrizio Romano published a tweet which has the words of Milan’s CEO Giorgio Furlani: “There are no talks now ongoing for Joshua Zirkzee deal… and even if there were talks, I’d never tell you!”

However, he then adds the following: “Behind the scenes, AC Milan had contacts for Zirkzee and he remains on the list as one of the potential main targets this summer.”

It seems as though there will be strong competition to land the former Bayern Munich man, given the reports stating that Arsenal scouted him over the weekend.
