Still ‘angry and confused’?

Wayne Rooney naively believes that Manchester United would never do anything to ‘jeopardise their relationship’ with the fans after they announced plans to join the new European Super League.

The press release dropped late on Sunday night, including the following quotes from Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer:

“By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid.”

AC Milan, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Tottenham are the other clubs.

Does Rooney, who previously questioned the Glazers for not investing enough of money into the first-team (via BBC), really think these leaches have us, the fans, in mind when it comes to making decisions?

We were never consulted about a breakaway league, and the Glazers has never tried to open dialogue with the fans. They’re “bottle merchants,” as Gary Neville called them after Sunday’s game, as per TalkSPORT.

Gary Neville has been extremely vocal against the European Super League, and Sir Alex Ferguson definitely isn’t in favour of it.

However, club record-scorer and former captain Rooney reckons his former club will always have the fans’ best interest at heart. Talk about having your head in the sand!

“I can speak from being at Man United at such a long-time,” the current Derby County manager said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “The last thing they would want to do would be to jeopardise their relationship with the fans. They would want to keep them involved. Let’s see what the proposals are when they come out.”

Come on, Wayne? Who are you trying to fool?
