Recent reports from DAZN Italia suggest that Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia is set to miss out on the 2024 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations through injury.

The 27-year-old has reportedly suffered a medium-grade muscular injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his left hamstring. It is expected that he will be ruled out for a period of around four to five weeks following detailed injury assessments over the festive period.

The injury will, however, rule him out of the upcoming AFCON tournament, which kicks off in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on January 13, running until February 11.

His injury is therefore also likely to keep him out of all of Salernitana’s January fixtures, which includes a league and cup double against Juventus, as well as games against Napoli and Roma in Serie A.

Dia’s absence will be a sore miss for Senegal, who are currently the bookies’ favourites to win the eventual final.

Dia has scored on six occasions for his national side from a total of 25 caps over the last three years, including two from two in 2023.

Though injuries have kept him out of action for spells during the first half of the 2023-24 season, Dia has also scored four goals from nine Serie A appearances this term, on top of an impressive 16 from 33 for Salernitana last campaign.
