Despite some late drama stemming from an offer from Wolverhampton, Salernitana retained Boulaye Dia last summer. The parties managed to mend fences afterward, as the Senegalese star indeed wanted to move to the Premier League. The bid, a loan with an option to buy, fell well short of their request, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

On the other hand, the contract of the striker envisages a release clause that comes into effect in the first portion of each transfer window. It amounts to €22M and will be valid until January 15th. Nobody activated it in June or early July. Its payment structure is very rigid.

Salernitana are wary of the threat but don’t have much leverage. They are confident Dia will finish the season with them, as president Danilo Iervolino stated.

“He’ll stay until January, then the fans will have to take into account the possible departure of important players.”

In addition, Dia will miss about a month from mid-January on due to AFCON. The Granata recently opted for a coaching change, appointing Simone Inzaghi. They are mulling either firing sporting director Morgan De Sanctis or adding somebody more experienced to their front office.

Our Take on Dia

There’s not much they can do, as the error happened in the past and can’t be corrected. He hasn’t been superb, and, while below market value, the fee would be important relative to their caliber. Either way, they need to purchase a veteran goal poacher.
