Coach Davide Ballardini feels that Sassuolo have gained some “positive energy” in the Serie A relegation scrap after a shock win over Inter Milan.

The Neroverdi coach spoke in a press conference ahead of his team’s match against Genoa, as reported by FCInter1908.

Sassuolo got a shock result against Inter last weekend.

Perhaps the result should not have come as too much of a surprise.

Sassuolo are undeniably a “bogey team” for the Nerazzurri. If that weren’t already the case prior to the start of this season, it is now.

The Neroverdi have beaten Inter both home and away in a league. They have done so in a season when the Nerazzurri have been dominant in the league, and have not lost a single other Serie A match.

Meanwhile, ironically enough, Sassuolo are struggling in the relegation places.

The Neroverdi know that they need three points from today’s match against Genoa if they are to catch up to Frosinone and Empoli in the table.

As things stand, Sassuolo remain in the relegation places.

However, Inter did the Emilians a favour on Friday by beating Frosinone. The 5-0 hammering of the Lazio-based team means that Sassuolo can at least catch up with them today.

Ballardini: Sassuolo Gained “Positive Energy” From Beating Inter

Sassuolo coach Ballardini commented that “As we’ve always said, we have a team of guys who care a lot.”

“There were some tough blows to take against Lecce and Fiorentina,” continued the Neroverdi coach.

“And it’s clear that the situation is serious for the team.”

“The performance against Inter stood out,” Ballardini continued. “It was a performance of great sacrifice.”

“But for me, Sassuolo can still play a bit better than that.”

“However, the extraordinary level of focus, of commitment, you need that when you play against teams of a certain level.”

“Clearly, that focus, that humility, that generosity that we showed against Inter, who are Italian champions, that win against them, gives us positive energy,” Ballardini went on.

“But we all know you need that same attention, that same humility in matches against Genoa as well.”
