Sassuolo have confirmed that star forward Domenico Berardi has successfully undergone an operation on his achilles following the season-ending injury he picked up in the Neroverdi’s 1-0 loss to Hella Verona over the weekend.

Berardi went down around the 60-minute mark on Saturday as he was preparing to launch a shot from distance. The Verona match was his first start in six matches after returning from a minor meniscus injury.

Sassuolo have since confirmed that Berardi has had tenorrhaphy on his ruptured achilles tendon at the Toniolo clinic in Bologna. He was accompanied by club doctor Dr Riccardo Saporiti.

Sassuolo’s club statement confirmed that Berardi’s operation was “perfectly successful.”

It is expected that Berardi will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 Serie A campaign, as well as the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany this summer.

Sassuolo and newly-appointed coach Davide Ballardini, meanwhile, have 11 matches remaining of the Serie A season to steer themselves out of the relegation zone.
