Stefano Sensi is staying at Inter, as after weeks of talks and a medical, the transfer to Leicester City has collapsed.

Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia all confirm the clubs were unable to reach an agreement and now Sensi will remain in Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

The deal had seemingly been done weeks ago, but was held up repeatedly by various problems.

His contract with Inter is due to expire on June 30, so he could not move on loan with an option to buy that had no guarantees.

Leicester City had issues committing to a transfer due to their financial fair play status and wanted it to be a purchase for €500,000 with option to buy for €2m in case of promotion to the Premier League.

Concerns also arose this evening that Sensi would not be able to get a work permit in the English Championship.

The 28-year-old had his medical in England and was waiting for hours while his agent, the two clubs and lawyers worked on whittling down the details.

The English transfer deadline for the winter window was at 23.00 GMT, but there are rules allowing extra time if both clubs sign paperwork confirming an agreement is imminent.

He made only four appearances for Inter this season for a total 65 minutes of football on the field.
