Hull City boss Steve Bruce praised his injury-hit side after they ended a three-match losing run with a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
Aaron McLean's 77th-minute goal, two minutes after stepping off the bench, was enough to ensure that Hull claimed all three points.
Wednesday, meanwhile, thought that Miguel Llera's first-half header crossed the line and also had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down following Andy Dawson's challenge on Michail Antonio.
Stephen Quinn and Sone Aluko both went close for the visitors.
Bruce said: "I'm pleased because we defended the way we should defend and we managed to take our chance.
"Dawson's challenge (on Antonio) looked like a penalty from where I was but that was the only mistake we made all day, so that's pleasing.
"We had six missing today who were injured and we were only able to name six substitutes, but we still managed to come here and get a result.
