Sir Alex Ferguson, spoke publicly today about Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney for the first time since he claimed Rooney wanted to leave the club at the end of last season. Sir Alex Ferguson broke his silence on the 27 year old forward on MUTV. Rooney scored two-goals in Tuesday’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Current United Manager David Moyes said he’s extremely happy with the new dedication and refocus that Rooney has shown lately; best exemplified by “Man of the Match” worthy performance Tuesday. Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager of United for 26 years made comments at the end of last season that seemed to have been an integral part of why Rooney was so disgruntled and wanted to leave United so badly. Today, the football legend’s remarks seem to have conveyed the idea that the two men have buried the hatchet. “I thought Wayne was fantastic [on Tuesday],” Ferguson said. “He’s got his energy back, his determination, his purpose to attack. “Being a director, I’m delighted (to see Rooney play well) He’s back to what we always remember.” Ferguson’s decision to drop Rooney for the Champions League match against Real Madrid this past March made the beef between the two titans of English football more amplified. However, it looks like Sir Alex Ferguson has smoothed things over; and it now seems much less likely that Wayne Rooney will seek a transfer in January. Paul M.
