Sky Sports man claims 23-year-old ‘doesn’t have a future at Tottenham’

Tottenham defender Djed Spence joined Genoa on loan earlier this month as a part of the Radu Dragusin transfer.

The 23-year-old fullback returned from his loan spell at Leeds United in January and Tottenham decided to send him out on loan again so that he can secure regular first-team football at the Italian club.

Spence has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot at the North London club and it seems that he is not a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans.

It will be interesting to see if the defender can impress at the Italian club during the second half of the campaign and secure a permanent exit away from Tottenham at the end end of the season.

Sky sports presenter Michael Bridge has revealed on Give Me Sport that the 23-year-old defender does not have a feature at Tottenham and it is quite evident by their decision to send him out on loan after his return from Leeds.

“Unless things change, Spence doesn’t have a future at Tottenham. I think we can say that quite clearly. But, credit him if he’s been persuaded to go to Genoa. Many players might want to sit on their backsides, stay in London, and wait until the summer. At least he’s making the effort to try something else. It’s not easy to go to Genoa. So, I’m sure Spurs wish him all the best, and I think they’ve done well to get this deal.”

The return from the Championship club midway through the season was quite surprising and the actual reason behind the decision is still unclear. There have been rumours of the defender’s lack of professionalism and his indiscipline.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old remains a prodigious talent and he could develop into a quality fullback with the right guidance. It will be interesting to see if Genoa can get the best out of him over the next few months.
