‘Standards’ – Paul Scholes reacts angrily to Manchester United training photo
Mitchell Gunn-USA TODAY Sports

Paul Scholes took a swipe at the current Manchester United team which has struggled this season. The side’s inconsistency has led to uncertainty over whether it’s too little too late to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The team are at Carrington this week to prepare for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, who won 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Today’s training session was a wet one with wintery conditions in Manchester.

However, Scholes couldn’t help but react to one of the photos from Carrington, which showed young duo Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho looking to stay sheltered from the rain.

This promoted a blast from club legend Scholes, who took to Instagram to write: “Don’t mind hats and gloves but no way can you train properly with your hood up… standards begin on the training pitch… bye!”

Many will see this and suggest that Scholes is just being another grumpy former professional who complains constantly about the game going soft.

The problem is that we don’t have the context behind the photo. Is it possible that both players were waiting for drills to start because it hardly looks like they were in the middle of a game. I’ve seen other photos of Mainoo during training without his hood pulled up.

Is it a needless swipe or does Scholes have a point? Well, I’d always listen to what a club legend has to say on any given MUFC matter.

Moreover, why have hoods on training gear if it can’t be worn?

Let us know what you think of Scholes’ reaction below in the comments section.
