Defender Stefan de Vrij feels that his goal against AC Milan in a 4-2 derby victory was his favourite moment in an Inter Milan shirt.

Speaking in the official matchday programme for this evening’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina, the Dutchman also said that his favourite assist for the Nerazzurri was for striker Lautaro Martinez against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Dutch international and former Lazio and Feyenoord defender de Vrij has now been an Inter player for more than five years.

The 31-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2018.

In that time, de Vrij has won the Serie A title with Inter. He has also won both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana on two occasions each.

Last season, de Vrij was not always first-choice at the heart of Inter’s back three – the arrival of Francesco Acerbi certainly gave him some competition for the role.

But the Dutchman has continued to prove his worth for the Nerazzurri. This summer, he committed his future with a contract extension until the end of June 2025.

And so far this season, de Vrij has enjoyed a rock-solid campaign at the back.

The 31-year-old started in both of Inter’s Serie A matches so far against Monza and Cagliari. He is expected to start this evening against Fiorentina as well.

Stefan De Vrij Names Goal Vs Milan In February 2020 As Favourite Inter Milan Moment

De Vrij said that “Taking to the pitch wearing this shirt is an honour.”

“Football can give you feelings that are unlike anything else,” the defender continued.

De Vrij explained that “The match that moved me most was the win against Spain in 2014 [with the Netherlands at the World Cup.]”

He also noted that “The Nerazzurri goal that I celebrated the hardest was the one I scored against Milan in a 4-2 derby win in 2020.”

“And in terms of assists, my favourite was the one for Lautaro against Borussia Dortmund,” de Vrij said.

As for his favourite Inter player, de Vrij said “I admire a lot of Inter players. But I have to say Ronaldo, he’s unique and I don’t think I have to explain why.”
