Ten Hag has already added to United’s woes by revealing which player is ‘likely to miss’ midweek Newcastle clash

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt about Manchester United’s affairs post-Sir Alex Ferguson, it’s that it never just rains, it pours.

That’s also the case at Old Trafford throughout the seasons, as footage circulated last night of the torrential rain downpour leaking through the stadium’s decaying roof.

On the pitch, the Reds are overseeing yet another dismal campaign, which has been largely plagued by a debilitating injury crisis unlike what we’ve ever seen before.

Certain players’ unavailability has proven detrimental to the side’s results, with the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane all integral to last season’s successes. There are hopes that they, among others, can return in time for the FA Cup final on May 25, although it would mark the Frenchman’s last-ever game in a red shirt, given that his contract expires in June.

Last week, Bruno Fernandes put an end to a remarkable four-year personal record with United, in which he had never missed a game through injury since signing for the club until last Monday.

Fernandes sidelined for Magpies contest

The odd time he’s been absent through suspension or – even more rarely – rested, it’s been felt deeply across the team. It’s no secret that the side is significantly less creative or stable when he’s not at the heart of its midfield, and it was again proven last night in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Unfortunately, the skipper looks set to be sidelined for the midweek clash against Newcastle United, too. Erik ten Hag told reporters post-match on Sunday that Fernandes is ‘likely to miss’ United’s penultimate league fixture on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen if he will be deemed fit enough to return for the final day – a trip to face Brighton and Hove Albion away at the Amex.
