Despite joining Anderlecht just this summer, Kasper Schmeichel may soon leave the club. The ex-Leicester City legend is reportedly considering a return to England, with potential interest from struggling Sheffield United, per Get Football.

At 37, Schmeichel is open to the idea, having fond memories of his time in England. His existing contract with Anderlecht extends only until the summer, with an option for an additional year.

While the potential departure of Kasper Schmeichel from Anderlecht could create short-term disruptions, it might also alleviate tension that has been escalating in recent months. During the summer, Anderlecht signed Maxime Dupé, a 30-year-old former Toulouse goalkeeper, with the assurance that he would be the team’s number one choice. However, when Schmeichel became available after leaving Nice, the Danish international took over as the first-choice goalkeeper on September 24th, displacing Dupé.

At first, it was evident that Schmeichel wasn’t the same player who had once been among the Premier League’s top goalkeepers during his prime with Leicester. Nevertheless, in recent weeks, his performances have undergone improvement, marked by a series of crucial saves that played a pivotal role in Anderlecht securing valuable points.

It remains to be seen who likely this signing is for the Blades, but if United can pry him away back to England then they will massively improve the goalkeeping department which has come under scrutiny all season.
