A lot of people have had a great misconception that Javier Hernandez displaced Dimitar Berbatov in the Manchester United starting XI, but that couldn't be further from the truth because he isn't the player that forced him out.
Roo and Berba don't play well togetherWayne Rooney is the player that pushed Berba to the bench because, for whatever reason, the two players simply cannot play together - and there's only room for one of them.
If anyone thinks anything otherwise, all they have to do is look what happened when Rooney's head wasn't right and who was picking up the slack for the Reds - Berbatov.
The United No. 9 single-handedly carried the goal scoring burden on his own, and that helped produce his best-ever season at Old Trafford. Many people often forget that Berbatov has done something Wayne Rooney has never done - win the Premier League's Golden Boot. His timely contributions last season have been long-forgotten, because of how Rooney scored some vital goals down the stretch, but it's a shame that they cannot play off each other, because the club would certainly benefit the most by that.
People say that Berbatov is fourth-choice at United, which is true to an extent, but he's really only behind Rooney, because other two aren't his style. Over the last season and a half, Bulgarian has scored 24 goals in the Premier League, the same as Rooney and five more than Hernandez. However, it took Rooney 45 games (0.53 goals-to-game average) and Hernandez 42 (0.45 goals-to-game average) to notch those goals, while it has only taken Berba 39 (0.62 goals-to-game average). Welbeck isn't factored in because he wasn't at United last season - and his goals-to-game ratio from that same time period isn't very good, a 0.25 average.
How many other players in the history of United could score a hat-trick against their fiercest rivals - and it be lost among everything that happens on the way to the club overtaking Liverpool's league title total? Only Dimitar Berbatov.
Why? Because Berba and Rooney like to play in the same position - a withdrawn, deeper role. They are both architects of the attack, but they don't really work well with others. Many people have said that both Hernandez and Welbeck can play with Berbatov, but nobody ever associates him and Wazza. There's no chance of Berbatov making a dead sprint run in behind the defense, which is the pass that both Welbeck and Hernandez can do with ease.
Let's face it, Sir Alex Ferguson isn't going to bench Rooney - no manager in their right mind would - but, remember, that comes at a cost, a £30m one to be exact. The fans who constantly say that this player or that player isn't "United Class," have to understand that Berbatov is one of the best skilled players in the world at his position. Most call him lazy, but he's anything but. He's controlled and knows his strengths and weakness, which running like a chicken with its head cut off is the latter.
With only six months remaining on his current contract, Dimitar Berbatov would be a huge loss if he were to leave Manchester United - and, again, it's shame that him and Wayne Rooney couldn't strike up a partnership, because the club would be better off if they did.
