‘They Love Him’: Arsenal Identify ‘Outstanding’ Player as Favourite January Target After Thomas Partey Blow

Arsenal saw their unbeaten run in the Premier League snapped after a loss to Newcastle United last week and have now suffered another major injury blow. Thomas Partey is reported to be out of action until the New Year and will end up missing a lot of games.

Arsenal Eye Douglas Luiz In Hunt For New Midfielder

What Have Arsenal Planned After Partey Blow?

With the Ghanaian being ruled out for multiple months, Fabrizio Romano claims that the Gunners have started looking for a new midfielder in the January transfer market. He claims that Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz remains their favourite midfield target and that they “love him”.

The journalist states that people at Arsenal really appreciate Luiz and consider him to be the “perfect midfielder” for them. However, the Villans are claimed to want to keep him in the club, which will make this deal difficult to pull off. It is stated that for the Gunners to pull this deal off, they’ll need to produce a “crazy bid” to convince their fellow Premier League club to sell him.

Romano adds that the feeling around Partey is that he will be out until “at least” the end of 2023 and that they will keep an eye on his situation on a daily basis. The journalist also adds that those around Arsenal really admire Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but that he is not interested in changing clubs at the moment.

Arsenal’s Previous Links To Douglas Luiz Remembered

Mikel Arteta’s side have been previously linked to a move for the Aston Villa midfielder too. They were reported to have three separate bids rejected by the Villans for Luiz last year and were frustrated by not being able to get a deal done. Soon after that, the Brazilian star also signed a new contract with his club.

Luiz has been in impressive form for Unai Emery’s side this season so far, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 18 appearances across all competitions. He was hailed for an “outstanding” display in Villa’s 4-1 win over West Ham United earlier this campaign and seems to have all the traits to excel at a club like Arsenal, who will need to produce big money to sign him.
