In recent days, there has been increasingly speculation on the future of Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona. Club officials, among them Xavi Hernandez, are reportedly keen to offload the Polish striker in the summer, given that his departure would significantly help with the financial situation.

Talks are planned with Lewandowski’s agent – Pini Zahavi – next week, at which point it has been reported that the idea of a summer departure will be floated. However, Zahavi himself has strongly denied this when he spoke to Polish journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk (via MD).

“This is nonsense. He wants to play one more year in Catalonia. He has signed a four-year contract.”

Lewandowski will earn €32m in wages next season, and for a player that is only going to regress at this stage of his career, it’s understandable that Barcelona would want to sell him as soon as possible. However, their hopes of doing so look very slim, given that both Lewandowski and Zahavi have closed the door on a possible exit.
