Tottenham attacker Timo Werner admits growing up admiring Mario Gomez.

Werner says he followed the former Bayern Munich centre-forward when he was with VfB Stuttgart.

He told the Spurs website: "I started playing at Stuttgart when I was young and so my idol then was Mario Gomez, who was the striker there at the time. Stuttgart won the league with him up front and he scored a lot of goals to help them be successful."

Werner was also asked about handling his career setbacks.

He added: "There have been so many! In the end you do get used to dealing with setbacks and you have your way of coping with them. I think it's important to not look at the media too much if you are going through a tough time and also don't blame yourself too much. In our business it is usual to have ups and downs and this is something you have to try to deal with."
