Tottenham Hotspur secured a loan deal with RB Leipzig for Timo Werner during the winter transfer window, which also included an option for a permanent transfer as part of the agreement.

Since joining, the German has quickly left his mark, significantly contributing to the attacking play whether he starts games or comes on as a substitute.

In his short tenure at Spurs so far, Werner has showcased his quality, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists in just 784 minutes of Premier League action across 12 appearances.

The wide forward’s promising start has sparked conversations about the possibility of a permanent deal with the Lilywhites.

Spurs will prefer to extend Werner’s loan

However, according to HITC, Tottenham’s preference is to extend Werner’s loan for another season until the summer of 2025 rather than triggering the option to buy and secure him on a permanent basis.

As per the report, if Spurs choose to sign the German international permanently, it would involve a modest transfer fee of £15 million, a commitment the North London outfit are reportedly hesitant to make.

With the European Championships looming and the expiration of the buy option before its start, Spurs must make a timely decision regarding whether they want to make the purchase.

Tottenham are considering their options, and Werner’s smooth transition, aided by his previous Premier League experience, makes him an attractive prospect for a long-term investment.

It ultimately rests with Ange Postecoglou to decide whether he deems Werner a fit for his plans and if he’ll request funds from Daniel Levy to secure the player’s services.
