Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Manchester United defender Harry Maguire at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old central defender has struggled for regular game time at Old Trafford and he has started just 13 league matches this season. Manchester United could look to get rid of him in the summer and a report from Fichajes claims that Tottenham would be keen on securing his signature.

It is fair to assume that Maguire could be available for a reasonable price and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done. They could use his defensive quality, experience and leadership skills.

Even though the move to Manchester United has not worked out for him, he has proven himself in the Premier League with Leicester City and for his country at the international level. The 31-year-old could be a useful option for Tottenham in the short term. If he is available for a reasonable price, the North London club would do well to secure his services.

Tottenham could use Harry Maguire

Tottenham will need more quality and depth in their squad in order to do well across multiple competitions and signing a proven Premier League performer would be a step in the right direction.

However, the defender is on substantial wage at Manchester United and it remains to be seen whether the Tottenham can afford that. Maguire earns £190,000 a week at Old Trafford and it is fair to assume that he will have to accept a pay cut in order for the deal to go through.

Tottenham have a strict wage structure in place and they will not want to break it.

Meanwhile, Manchester United paid around £80 million for the defender when they signed him from Leicester City and they will have to accept a major loss on their investment this summer. They are unlikely to be able to recoup that money for the defender based on his performances in recent seasons.
