Two games for Pioli to save Milan job as Lopetegui emerges again

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan‘s results against Roma in the Europa League and Inter in Serie A will determine Stefano Pioli’s future at San Siro, while Corriere dello Sport claims Rossoneri directors already met Julen Lopetegui twice.

Several sources in Italy recently claimed that Pioli was close to remaining in charge beyond the summer, but Thursday’s loss in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Roma seems to have thrown the coach’s future at San Siro in doubt again.

Saturday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page four, claims the Parma-born’s destiny is strictly linked to Milan’s upcoming matches against Roma and Inter.

The Rossoneri will visit Daniele De Rossi’s side in the Europa League quarter-final decider next week, after an away Serie A game at Sassuolo, while the derby with Inter is scheduled on April 22.

Disappointing results in these two matches will likely determine Pioli’s exit despite a contract expiring in 2025, according to Gazzetta.

Milan already met Lopetegui

Il Corriere dello Sport confirms the coach’s future at Milan is uncertain following the latest European disappointment.

The Rome-based paper claims Milan have already met Lopetegui twice but haven’t yet submitted a concrete offer to the Spanish tactician.

Relevo reported Milan’s interest in Lopetegui in February and the ex-Sevilla and Real Madrid coach remains a solid candidate for the Rossoneri bench if Pioli leaves.
