Erik ten Hag has compared Manchester United attacker Antony to Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben.

Robben was lauded for his iconic trait of cutting in from the left flank onto his preferred foot and firing sensational strikes at the opposition’s goalkeepers, an attribute which Antony has displayed countless times throughout his career.

As well as that, the Dutchman is still regarded as one of the best wingers in world football for his ability to take on and beat a defender, and demonstrate his outstanding dribbling abilities in every game.

Yesterday, Antony had one of his most impressive games in a United shirt after scoring and assisting in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Post-match, Ten Hag was quick to make the link between the two players and said (via ESPN): “So I have seen, for instance, Arjen Robben a lot, and they always said he has only one trick [cutting inside], but in that one trick he was so brilliant. No one could stop it.

“I think we have to emphasise of course that when you can go both ways, you are more, you have more variations, you are more variable, difficult to stop, but also to improve that – the trick you are really good at, because his first yards and dribbles with the ball are outstanding. I think it’s too difficult to defend, so he has to keep doing that.”
