The father of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will face no further action following his arrest as part of an investigation into betting irregularities.
Rooney's father was arrested with eight other men in October last year on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. The arrest came after a police investigation into suspicious betting patterns at a Scottish Premier League match.
His lawyer, Anthony Barnfather, says in a statement Monday that his client has ''always vigorously denied the allegations and maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.''
Richie Rooney, the England striker's uncle, was also arrested as part of the investigation. The inquiry focuses on Motherwell's home match against Hearts on Dec. 14.
