A new report from Miguel Delaney for the Independent suggests that Manchester City are a step ahead of their rivals in the chase for Bayern Munich starlet Jamal Musiala. The thought of the young playmaker arriving at the Etihad is a tantalising one. If he were to arrive, where would he fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad?

A look at the positions played by Musiala for Bayern Munich shows his versatility. As per transfermarkt.com, the young midfielder has played a variety of roles. Across his 34 appearances, his versatility stands out. He has started 23 times as an attacking midfielder. His other 11 games have seen him play on either wing but primarily on the left wing. This versatility shows he wouldn’t be pigeonholed into one role if he were to arrive at Manchester City this summer.

There is, however, the tantalising prospect of the Bayern Munich starlet forming a midfield duo with Phil Foden. Given the strides made by Foden this season his future appears destined in a central role. If Musiala were to arrive at the champions he could form a dynamic partnership with Foden. The prospect of two of the premier young talents playing through the middle under Pep Guardiola opens up endless possibilities. With Musiala regarded as one of the best young players in world football Manchester City would also be adding another young gem if they could sign the Bayern Munich starlet.

Jamal Musiala has scored 12 goals and added 7 assists for Bayern Munich so far this season. While it has been a disappointing campaign for the Bundesliga giants Musiala has had a good season to date. He has shown the quality that has attracted the interest of Manchester City and a host of other clubs. Delaney also reports that Liverpool, PSG and Barcelona are interested in securing Musiala.

Musiala would bring immense talent, versatility and potential to the Etihad if he were to arrive this summer. It’s clear he could become a world beater under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. If Miguel Delaney’s report that City’s interest in Musiala is more advanced than their rivals an exciting summer window may lie ahead.
