Is a return for KT on the cards?

There’s been rumours of Kieran Tierney making a return to Celtic next season. It was first rumoured a few times last summer but the Scotland man made the move to Spain, joining La Liga side Real Sociedad on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

KT has been in fine form for the Basque side as they currently sit sixth in La Liga while also having reached the last 16 of the Champions League and it’s an absolutely beautiful part of the world, which the former Celtic star is thoroughly enjoying.

Despite his good form it has been reported that the Scotland left back is unlikely to sign for Real Sociedad as the fee involved is too high and his huge Arsenal wages too much for them to afford.

Coupled with his huge salary that would also make a move to Celtic highly unlikely, but a loan move may be realistic.

Tierney clearly isn’t wanted by Mikel Arteta, but he’s still a top quality player and one who knows our club so well. Brendan Rodgers is also clearly a fan of the Scotland man and knows all about his commitment to the Celtic cause. He would be a superb addition even on a temporary basis.

A permanent deal could be possible but it would take significant compromises on all sides. Arsenal on the transfer fee – a player is only worth what another club will offer and Celtic’s offer could be the only one they receive. KT on the wages, he will NOT get Premier League wages at Celtic – but would he accept, for example accepting parity with his friend Callum McGregor, the Celtic captain? And Celtic on a record breaking transfer fee, maybe as much as £10m.

We need a top quality left back and KT even on a loan deal would be a superb move. Yes his injury record is concerning, but his mere experience and presence would be so beneficial. The question is, will it happen?

As your granny used to say, where there’s a will there’s a way…
