Why Chelsea’s new contract for Tuchel is an essential decision

The whispers this morning have been that Chelsea are considering offering Thomas Tuchel a contract extension, and that’s the right move.

Of course after over a year and a half in charge we’ve seen his weaknesses as well as his strengths, and the honeymoon is certainly over in terms of fans taking it easy on him.

But it’s not just the Champions League win a few months after his arrival keeping supporters happy – and this weekend’s game against Spurs reminded us all of how good he can be tactically.

The decision to give him a big say in our transfers this summer was a risky one, but once we had decided to take it, the only course of action to follow that was to back him with a new deal. The only decision which would guarantee bad outcomes would be backing our coach – and then not giving him time to make it work.
