This Saturday is the last opportunity for this season’s 2023 WVU football team to play at Milan Puskar Stadium, and it’s also a day to honor a legendary figure in the program’s history. And playing well on the field is obviously the most important thing, but the last home game also means the final uniform combination to be worn in Morgantown.

West Virginia will honor the festivities of the day by wearing only their traditional gold and blue colors . WVU will wear a blue helmet, blue jersey and gold pants to harken back to Don Nehlen’s tenure. The numbers and logos will be in gold.

Nehlen’s name will be immortalized on the stadium along with the retired numbers. During his two-decade run at West Virginia, Nehlen guided his WVU teams to 13 bowl game appearances, 17 winning seasons and the 1993 Big East Conference title, and his 1988 and 1993 squads finished the regular season with undefeated records. The 1997 president of the prestigious American Football Coaches Association, Nehlen received the 2002 Distinguished West Virginian Award from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association, and in 2017, he received the AFCA’s Amos Alonzo Stagg Award for advancing the best interests of college football.

WVU football fans might be concerned about the Mountaineers after watching their team get blown out in Oklahoma, but oddsmakers aren’t as worried about West Virginia the rest of the season.

After opening with West Virginia favored by four, the odds for WVU vs. Cincinnati has steadily increased to further favored the home team. The spread has moved to WVU being a six and a half-point favorite, according to most sportsbooks. The home field advantage and struggles of the Bearcats to transition to the Big 12 in their first season in the conference are likely reasons why West Virginia is expected to win.

Vote in our poll below that asks if WVU and Cincinnati will become a new Big 12 rivalry.
