Introducing Summer Reading with Loser Domi

Hello, everyone! Some years ago, I was a bit of a darling around these parts with stupid humor and occasional hockey material. After a lengthy hiatus, I’ve come back (at least temporarily) to Barry Melrose Rocks. One of my favorite tags in the old site was “August is Really F’n Boring”, and I have a new series to remedy that. I present, “Summer Reading with Loser Domi...

Gary Bettman is committed to the joke

\ From a business perspective, the long time criticism of the NHL has been its expansion into non-traditional markets. There have been some obvious successes, like Los Angeles or Dallas, but then some abject failures, like Atlanta and Phoenix. There is business sense to trying to increase the league’s footprint, but many long term observers of the league recognize that the NHL...

The new Bridgestone Arena seating looks uncomfortable

Ever since the season concluded in Nashville, there have been some renovations to Bridgestone Arena. Gotta get ready for Selena Gomez, after all. Anyways, as anyone who has ever installed arena seats knows, the first step is always the armrests. And yes, this is a perfect example of BMR’s riveting offseason content. *sigh*

Buck up, Sharks, you were beat by the best

The Sharks were able to carry the series out to 6 games, including a two goal victory on Friday in Pittsburgh to extend the series. That’s good, right! They denied the Penguins the chance to celebrate at home in what can only be described as a spiteful victory. The Sharks were able to shake their reputation as a playoff choker, and looked capable in the Finals. And check out these...

The Coyotes are really trying to like Arizona

The Arizona Coyotes have been in a haze almost since they moved to the Phoenix area 20+ years ago. It seems like any team that claims that they are trying to push for a new arena while saying they are “committed” to an area is almost always lying, and would be willing to move at the drop of a hat. Until there is ancillary evidence that they are really making a good faith effort...

Pittsburgh doesn’t have everything

The Pittsburgh Penguins have three Stanley Cup titles under their belt. It seems like they should have won more in recent years, but they have been without since 2009. the number of times they have actually hoisted the cup in Pittsburgh? 0. Thanks to their win against San jose, in the Bay area 3 nights ago, however, this could be the moment that Penguins fans are waiting for. This...

The Pittsburgh Penguins (2-1) take on the San Jose Sharks (1-2) tonight in Game 4 of the 2016 NHL Stanley Cup Finals, and ticket prices have been noticeably cheaper than last year. According to data pulled by TicketNetwork, the average price of a Game 4 ticket is $865, compared to $996 in 2015. After 20 long years, Florida Panther finally turns head

The Florida Panthers had one of the longest lived uniform schemes in the league, and now that they are getting good again, people realized that they were still rocking 90s gear. It was time for merchandising revenue an upgrade. I am usually not a fan of anything new, but I kind of like this uniform. I am really excited to see their new logo moonlighting in the MLS.

The Sharks are in the Stanley Cup Final

SCOREBOARD San Jose 5, St Louis 2 – Just like this entire series, the individual games were all blowouts, but it still had the feel of an evenly matchedd struggle. Very strange, but a heck of a lot easier to get through for fans.
