NFL Week 5: Gambling Enabler

If you weren’t long the Browns on Thursday night, you have some catching up to do. There are a few spots on the week 5 schedule to make that happen. That’s right, it’s already week 5 and it’s time to recoup those losses. It’s time to turn the first four weeks of historical data into future betting profits. A Look At The NFL’s Top Rushers

The NFL season is almost underway, and that of course has kicked off preseason speculation of all kinds. Will Peyton Manning’s new receiving corps be unstoppable? Will Percy Harvin push the Seahawks over the edge? Will Colin Kaepernick be able to provide an encore for his stellar 2013 debut? These are just a few of the questions being asked everywhere from Yahoo! Sports to your...

NFL Win Total Over/Under Picks 2013

There’s nothing  better than a warm late July, early August day when NFL football starts back up. Over the past couple weekends I have started to feel that legitimate excitement. We can start talking less about murders and DUIs and more about pre-season and fantasy football. Until September when the regular season kicks off, that’s the best thing we’ve got going. With the...

Betting tips on who will score the most touchdowns this season in the NFL

Outside of the common types of NFL sports bets – such as which teams will win the AFC and NFC leagues and the Super Bowl itself, another popular way of betting on the NFL is a prop (or proposition) bet. There are all kinds of prop bets available for the NFL, like betting on who will score the first touchdown in a particular match (often the Super Bowl), and who will make the most...

How Much More Can Russell Wilson Improve?

When the 2012 NFL season kicked off, no one gave Russell Wilson a ton of thought because he was scheduled to be playing behind Matt Flynn. However, Coach Pete Carroll decided early on that Wilson would be the guy to lead the offense. That decision paid off and helped Seattle get into the playoffs. The question is, can Wilson improve, or was he experiencing some beginner’s luck...

Sloan Sports Analytics Conference 2013 A.K.A. Dorkapalooza IVV

The MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference is the baby of Daryl Morey (Rockets GM) and Jessica Gelman (Gillette marketing executive). As the story goes, Morey wanted to start the conference after taking the  Rockets job because he could no longer lecture back in Cambridge. “This is Daryl’s class,” Moneyball author Michael Lewis said. Morey is a Sloan alum. Although the conference...

Sports Analytics Conference 2013

For me, this Friday will be a third foray into the world of sports analytics at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. This year the conference returns to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center after making its way over to the Hynes Convention Center last year. Both are legitimate world class venues, and thus more than suitable locations for a bunch of pocket protector wearing...

Baseball And Poker; Not As Boring As You Think

The game of poker is considered by many casual viewers to be a dull and boring game.  When players watch real poker being played and not the heavily edited episodes of the World Series of Poker on ESPN, they see a game that has long periods of inactivity.  As such, they tend to get bored and disinterested. Suddenly, there is a raise at the table and a re-raise by another player...

Super Bowl Gambling: Joe Flacco

Who is ready for more Super Bowl 47 odds? Earlier we talked Super Bowl MVP odds. Now I want to concentrate on Joe Flacco specific prop bets. There are a ton of different bets that have to do with touchdowns, of course. Here are some of my favorites. First, I want to talk about Joe Flacco. Total TD Passes – Joe Flacco (BAL) 1 Touchdown (+175) 2 Touchdowns (+250) 3 Touchdowns (+450...

Super Bowl Gambling: MVP Odds

I know we have been a bit slow here at OWS. What better time to stoke-up the ole OWS machine but for the Super Bowl! The first thing that the Super Bowl congeries up in my mind — gambling, of course. Lets start with the Super Bowl MVP odds. The favorites are obviously the quarterbacks – even with these two particularly unproven QBs. Colin Kaepernick is 8/5 while Joe Flacco...

Week 12 – Things That Caught My Eye

When you are facing any opponent, be it an inferior one or one that should run you out of the building, when you are facing them with your 3rd string QB, your 3rd starting QB in as many weeks, you as a team need to step up. Early on in the Pittsburgh / Cleveland game, it looked like the Steelers were going to do just that, step up but then the fumbles started coming. And they kept...

NFC Playoff Picture

So I logged on to this morning like I usually do to catch up on some NFL news and I was greeted by this picture and the question underneath it. What’s wrong with this question? I’m sure you picked up on it immediately but if not, exactly how do you consider the Philadelphia Eagles a playoff contender? At 3-6, they would realistically have to lose only 1 game from here...

Week 10 – Things That Caught My Eye

It’s been a while and I do apologize. I live in the Northeast, NJ to be exact and the past few weeks, mother nature has not been a friend but that’s all history now. Now, let’s talk a little Week 10. Many teams I’m sure felt this way this week No People, It’s Not Tebow-Time People aren’t going to believe me when I say that I am not a NY Jets fan because it always seems...

Racially Insensitive Garb Makes A Fantastic Halloween Costume In ‘Zona This Season

I don’t truly believe anyone in this country should be offended by the “Indian-thing” at this point. I do find it awesome (see: hilarious) that we all learn in elementary school that naming the inhabitants of North America “Indians” was a total screw up by Chris Columbus. Interestingly enough, from that day forward Americans with a strong believe (no matter how wrong) were...

In San Fran They Only Riot With The Finest Mobile Hardware

The 2012 World Series has come and gone. Most people on the east coast didn’t notice. I didn’t, really. However, the memories will live on in the thousands of iPads/iPhones present for the games (and riots) in San Francisco. It should be to no ones surprise that these Giants fans sport the newest tech gadgets. That cliche is a given. At least no executives lost unreleased hardware...

The Eagles Were Favored Against The Falcons

Andy Reid had never lost coming out of a bye week. This some how gave Vegas the genius idea to make the Eagles a 3-point favorite at home against the Falcons. The Eagles may have been undefeated coming off the bye, but the Falcons are actually undefeated this season. The Eagles trailed by 17 points coming out of the half. FOX posted a statistic; the Eagles are 3-58 when trailing...

NHL Cancels All Games Through November 30th.

The NHL cancelled all games through November 30th today as the lockout continues. At this point, I don’t see a season. I can forgive everyone  if we get to a shortened season but I don’t see how that is going to be possible. Neither side seems like it is going to give any more. Should we lose ANOTHER entire season, I see me becoming more of a casual fan at that point. Kind of sad really.

“Pick Six” for Week 8

We are almost halfway through the NFL season so my eyes seem to be focused on the teams that look to be built for a chance to play in New Orleans this February. Panthers @ Bears – The Panthers travel to Chicago to take on the Bears, a team that keeps surprising me week after week. At 5-1, the Bears are sitting in a pretty decent spot atop the NFC North. Minnesota is falling...

NFL Week 7 – Things That Caught My Eye

Patriots Squeak Out A Win Ok, let’s start with the Patriots and Jets game. We’ve been talking for weeks how the Jets are not a good football team, that they are a team that is barely hanging on and offensively, just aren’t very good. While I haven’t been saying it (mainly because I don’t agree)  many out there are saying that the Patriots are the best team in the AFC....

Can The Yankees Win 4 Straight?

All day yesterday we knew what the outcome of last night’s game was going to be. The Yankees aren’t hitting and they were facing the league’s best pitcher. How could you not think that come Wednesday morning, the Yankees wouldn’t be sitting in a 0-3 hole? All eyes have seemed to focus on a series that happened 8 years ago. If you haven’t heard by now, 8 years ago today...

So as expected yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens announced that Ray Lewis would be shutting it down for the rest of the season. Could this be the last we’ve seen of Ray Lewis?
