Toronto Raptors President and General Manager called in from South Africa to discuss what he has been up to and talk a bit about Bismack Biyombo.
Minutes after the July Moratorium ended Toronto Raptors GM Masai Ujiri was on the phone to Bismack Biyombo. "It's quite a funny story," Biyombo said. "I have known Masai for a while and right after 12, it was like 12:03, I got a phone call from Masai, so I was asking myself, is he going to talk to me about the summer camps and stuff or is it just going to be about basketball?"
The 2015-16 NBA schedule release date hasn't been officially released, but we know from past history that the most likely date will be on a Wednesday.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Toronto Raptors second round draft pick Norman is considered to be one of the standout players we should be keeping an eye on once the regular season starts.
At the end of the season it looked like the Toronto Raptors Bruno Caboclo was still 2 years away from being 2 years away, but even with this year's mediocre Summer League stats, it can be safely assumed at least one of those years is now behind him. The Raptors still don’t have any playing time for a raw developing prospect, but since the Raptors 905 does, Caboclo should be expected...
Who has been the best starting unit for the Toronto Raptors over the past 20 years? There haven't been many over .500 seasons for Toronto, but the teams that did it, earned it and were fun to watch.
GM Masai Ujiri’s big free agent signing was, of course, the 60-win Atlanta Hawks starting small forward DeMarre Carroll and it happened fast. “I drooled at the mouth just to play alongside guys like Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan," Carroll said. "Those two All-Star guys, they bring a lot. It was really just deciding to be able to come to a winning program and to help this team...
The NBA is often called a young man’s game. Every year 60 more players get drafted and teams scramble to lock up the best of the rest. However, if one looks closer at the best teams in the NBA, year-after-year, there will be more than a few long term veterans making a difference, which begs the question, just how good could a team of all 35-year-olds be and could they actually...
This shouldn't have come as much of a surprise, but no one was willing to give the Cavs anything of value for the non-guaranteed $10.5 million contract belonging to Brandan Haywood. Essentially, Cleveland had to pay the Trail Blazers to take him. The Cavaliers also sent Mike Miller to Portland for a $2.85 million TPE.

Team Canada looked like they had never been in a really big game before and Brazil just did what they had been doing all tournament, so it was Pan Am Silver for the team that had never won a medal at this tournament. Brazil has now taken home Gold in four of the past five events. "I think we grew up throughout the tournament and throughout this game," Team Canada head coach Jay Triano said.
The Toronto Raptors Luis Scola is 5-0 against Canada at the FIBA Americas tournaments and in 2009, he took away Canada's last and best chance at a medal in the final game. Argentina has been good for while, so it's been no disgrace for the Canadian side to lose to them, but still, you'd think someone would have remembered just how good Scola has been?
In a one minute span at the end of overtime 18-year-old Jamal Murray scored eight points including back-to-back three-pointers to put Canada up 110-106 and deny Team USA their chance to end that 32-year Gold Medal drought at the Pan Am tournament. It has been quite the coming out party for the tournament's second youngest player who won't attend his first year of college until the fall.
Team Canada went 3-0 in Men's Basketball pool play at the Pan Am Games by defeating Mexico 96-76 to advance to the semi-finals against the loser between the USA and Brazil. In a surprise Brazil won 93-83 and Canada will now face the US Men's team at 6 pm ET on Friday. Canada has been led by Brady Heslip, Andrew Nicholson, Anthony Bennett and Jamal Murray. http://wp.me/p3H24M-4FC
The Toronto Raptors have officially signed undrafted free agents Ronald Roberts, Axel Toupane and Michale Kyser to bring their training camp roster to 17 players. It is believed that all three players have been signed to modest non-guaranteed deals.
Team Canada Brady Heslip's highlight bucket in this game wasn't from beyond the arc in the 96-76 win over Mexico. It was on a deep football-style pass from the 18-year-old Jamal Murray the length of the floor that was caught by Heslip taking just one-step to lay it in at the other end.
The Toronto Raptors do have the option to go with a typical small ball lineup. However, a more interesting and potentially mind-boggling option for Raptors opponents would be to go bigger and play the same way. Lowry, DeRozan, Carroll, Patterson and Scola. Now that’s a lineup with size, smarts, rebounding and no player an opponent can cheat off on defense.
Canada defeats Argentina 88-83 and while it was Andrew Nicholson's turn to dominate inside as his frontcourt partner Anthony Bennett didn't miss a shot, the night belonged to the yet-to-be college freshman Jamal Murray. It looks like the University of Kentucky still knows what they are doing when it comes to recruiting the good ones.
The Toronto Raptors are returning to play a regular season game in London, England on January 16, 2016. They will face the Orlando Magic at the O2 arena. Toronto was the first NBA franchise to play a regular season NBA game in Europe when they played a back-to-back series versus the New Jersey Nets at the O2 in 2011. The Raptors DeMar DeRozan returns to the arena where he has averaged...
In the revamp of the Toronto Raptors and Charlotte Hornets this summer, the Hornets free agent center Bismack Biyombo headed north to Toronto to build on his young career and the Raptors free agent power forward Tyler Hansbrough returns to North Carolina after six NBA seasons where he remains a local college basketball hero.
This game was never in doubt after the first quarter. Team Canada shot 55 percent from the field versus 42 percent for the Dominican Republic. Head coach Jay Triano has to be very happy after this game that Brady Heslip (24 points) left NBA Summer League just in time to become a last minute addition to Team Canada.
If you’re been paying attention, this will be the third year in a row Toronto Raptors GM Masai Ujiri has taken a hard look at three fringe prospects in the hopes he’ll find that diamond in the rough. The team has confirmed a deal for Ronald Roberts and camp invites for Alex Toupane and Michale Kyser as expected to be confirmed soon.
The Toronto Raptors roster is set save for one open position that could either go to another young player expected to head immediately to the NBA D-League or an NBA veteran who could mentor and fill in as needed during the regular season. With rookies Delon Wright and Norman Powell already signed and sophomores Bruno Caboclo and Lucas Nogueira returning, one might expect the decision...
The upcoming season is a contract year for the Toronto Raptors Terrence Ross and there is a lot at stake for the young wing. A big bounce-back from a poor third season and ankle surgery in May is required if Ross is to regain the "3-and-D" status that will get him paid next summer.
