Granted, I have no idea if any of the other 29 teams have a guy like this, but I’m willing to bet they don’t. Ross Ohlendorf is a ridiculously smart dude. You probably knew he went to Princeton. You might have even heard of his legendary senior thesis. If you’re...

And now we’re one game away from the World Series of Death…Phillies vs. Yankees. As Pittsburghers, we’re obligated to hate Philly, and as baseball fans not from New York, we of course despise the Yankees, so what do we do if the Angels can’t pull out a miracle...

Not a whole lot going on…
The Pirates had higher TV ratings than 11 other MLB teams in 2009, including both LCS participants from Los Angeles. [Ratings on FSN were up almost 20% this year]. Why? Who the heck knows, but it sure does give us yet another reason to wonder why they...

That’s right, 49 years ago to the day, Bill Mazeroski capped off an unbelievable Pirates World Series win, possibly the greatest game of all time, and still the only World Series Game 7 to be decided on a walk-off homer. And just as they do every year (since 1985), a group...

Remember back on April 5, [when I polled readers (via Twitter) how many wins they thought the Bucs would rack up this year?] Well, we were all way too optimistic–which is pretty sad considering none of us even predicted a winning season. Here are the responses:

The Pirates finished 2009 with a 62-99 record after a very deflating loss to wrap up the year this afternoon in Cincinnati.
The loss ensured the Pirates will pick 2nd in the 2010 draft, so that’s good, I guess. Baltimore won, too, but the Bucs went final first.
