The Michigan basketball team twice couldn’t make game-clinching plays in Tuesday’s eventual 82-78 double overtime loss to Northwestern. While the result was disheartening, and, in many ways, emblematic of the 2014-15 season, there were several positives and learning situations for the Wolverines. We take a look in Five Key Plays.
1) Aubrey Dawkins powers Michigan early
Michigan and Northwestern played 50 minutes of thrilling basketball on Tuesday evening, but it was 50 minutes filled with the mistakes that you would expect from teams hovering around .500 in the final week of the regular season.
For a shorthanded Michigan team that has suffered through so many heartbreaking defeats already this season, this one might have been the worst. Despite...

The 2014-15 season has been a bit of an outlier for the Michigan basketball program under John Beilein recently.
The Wolverines, which have made the NCAA tournament four seasons in a row, will miss the dance unless they can make a surprising run to a Big Ten tournament championship. Even an NIT bid remains in question as Michigan toes the .500 mark.

The first decision wasn’t so much of a gamble, but Beilein simply sticking to one of his core principles. Maryland...

Perhaps the most surprising part of Kameron Chatman’s struggles this year stem from just how much he was hyped in the first place — not only by his top-40 ranking as a recruit, but by the Michigan coaching staff themselves.
When the Wolverines traveled to Italy last summer, Chatman struggled shooting, but John Beilein was quick to heap praise on the wing, who exhibited a solid...
