Rockies defeat Giants behind strong outing by Franklin Morales

Franklin Morales got a new hat in the mail last week, a dress western silver Stetson, right out of a big box. It's too wide to fit on the shelf in his locker and too nice to keep on the floor. His pitches are similarly outsized, proper by nature but ready to go rugged and dusty. On Tuesday in a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field, Morales was all over the...

The Morales of the story is that Franklin wants to be in the Colorado Rockies rotation permanently

Franklin Morales has been better than anyone expected for the Rockies. There is a reason why Franklin Morales was one of the first pitchers taken in your fantasy baseball draft during spring training.Oh wait. He wasn't? No one took him at all? Oh yeah. Everyone expected him to be in the bullpen with an ERA hovering around 5.50 for the Colorado Rockies. On Tuesday night, as the...

Charlie Blackmon and Mike Trout in the Same Sentence

Funny thing about the WAR leaderboard is, as much as it’s still very early in the season, familiar names are starting to find their places. There’s Mike Trout. Of course there’s Mike Trout. If “WAR” didn’t sound so damned good, the stat might be called Wins Below Trout, and one would reasonably expect him to […]

Rockies maul Giants with five home runs

The Coors Field water bill went sky high Monday night. The Rockies set off the center-field fountains with five home runs in an 8-2 stomping of San Francisco. Two homers flew off the still-sizzling bat of Charlie Blackmon, who had the first multi-homer game of his career. The onslaught provided a comfy security blanket for starter Jorge De La Rosa, who earned his first victory...

Cuddyer Hammy Injured In Local Omelette Incident

Michael Cuddyer to the DL with his hamstring injury. I love these Monday DL calls right after weekly fantasy lineups lock. Turr...iffic! You don't care about our fantasy teams at all, Walt Weiss, do you? Last year it was Josh Rutledge, this year it's Corey Dickerson. I wonder if he holds a secret grudge against fantasy baseball because it never rewarded his defensive...

Offense shows firepower as Jorge De La Rosa shows he still has it for Colorado Rockies

Jorge De La Rosa returned to form on Friday night.0-for-6 with two walks and three strikeouts. When Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki combine for those numbers, it usually doesn't result in a win for the Colorado Rockies. Vogelsong Knocked Out Early, Rockies Hit Long Ball To Victory

Coming off a solid start last week, Ryan Vogelsong went the opposite direction with one and a third innings pitched, 59 pitches, six hits, five earned runs, three walks, and zero strike outs as the Giants fell to the Rockies 8-2. Vogelsong, who was sporting his trademark snarl at the start of the game, tossed the shortest game of his career. While looking undoubtedly focused against...

Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez exits with left knee pain

Many would say that in the case of Carlos Gonzalez sitting out with an injury, it is a case of when, not if. Sloppy baseball preventing Colorado Rockies from being a very good team

Jordan Pacheco had a rough day. It's the little things. The Colorado Rockies are a talented group. They have a lineup that has somewhere in the neighborhood of 23 or 24 other teams in baseball jealous. While the 2013 season marked the Helton farewell tour, the 2014 seaon marks the beginning of the post Helton era and a new everyday face at first base. That new face is Justin Morneau...

Rockies get past Phillies again as Jordan Lyles, Justin Morneau shine

The squirrel that hijacked the middle innings Saturday evening running around Coors Field — let's call him Skweaky, for the sake of narrative — sprinted from right field to the visitors' dugout quicker than Justin Morneau rounded the bases. But there's no stopwatch clocking home runs. So score one for Skweaky in the dash and give Morneau the nod for his two-run homer...
