Carlos Alcaraz set to return to Roland Garros after recovering from arm injury he suffered during Madrid Open

Carlos Alcaraz has been undergoing treatment for the arm injury he suffered during the Madrid Open but has already started preparing for the upcoming Roland Garros. He has started working with his physiotherapist, Juanjo Moreno, and coach Alberto Lledo for the same.

As per a report by Marca, Alcaraz celebrated his birthday on May 5 with his family and friends and started his recovery journey to appear in the clay-court Grand Slam event. He will hit the tennis court on Monday for the first time since his quarterfinal match against Andrey Rublev in Madrid, where he played to defend his title.

In that quarterfinal, the 21-year-old won the first set but lost the next two. The Russian then went on to win the semifinal and the final, lifting the title by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz is 18 – 5 on the season with one title which he lifted by beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev at the Indian Wells Masters. The Spaniard has not made it to another final this season. After the arm injury, he withdrew his name from the ongoing Italian Open.

On May 11th, Rafael Nadal lost to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz easily in the second round of the Italian Open with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-3. Roland Garros is around the corner but Nadal said he still hasn’t made up his mind to play there, but if he plays, he wishes to meet Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Nadal, since his comeback, has not made it to the quarterfinals of any event. After his surgery, he played at this year’s Brisbane International, but an abdominal muscle tear made him miss a few more events before his comeback in Barcelona. He then featured in the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.

While things seemed to be working well for Alcaraz, for Sinner, it’s difficult. Like Alcaraz, Sinner suffered a hip injury and withdrew from the quarterfinal against Felix Auger-Aliassime of the Italian Open.

Sinner said that if he doesn’t recover before Roland Garros, he might miss playing tennis for a long time. This injury hampered his progress this season as he has already lifted three titles (Australian Open, ATP Rotterdam, and the Miami Open) and has an impressive 28 – 2 win-loss record.
