Coco Gauff becomes youngest American woman to reach U.S. Open quarterfinal since 2009

18-year-old American phenom Coco Gauff reached another impressive feat on Sunday, knocking off Shuai Zhang of China (7-5, 7-5) to advance to the U.S. Open quarterfinals.

Gauff became the youngest U.S. player since Melanie Oudin in 2009 to reach the Open quarterfinals.

In a week at Arthur Ashe, which included the final match of Serena William's career, the same stadium heard the echo of Gauff's name during her historic victory.

"It feels insane. I mean, Ashe Stadium chanting my name?" Gauff said after the match. "I was trying not to smile on the bench on the changeover. I was trying to stay in the moment."

Gauff, the No. 12 seed, will take on No. 17 Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals next week.

"She's obviously a great player, even though she's had ups and downs," Gauff said when asked about Garcia. "I think right now she's playing probably the best tennis. I think she's playing the best tennis she's played in a long time."
