Fifth-seeded Ivan Dodig of Croatia had to rally from a set down to beat Indian wild card entry Vishnu Vardhan 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-1 in the first round of the Chennai Open on Monday. Dodig saved five match points in the second set before easing through the third to win in two hours and 35 minutes. Another local wild card entry, Yuki Bhambri, had better luck with a 6-2, 6-3 upset victory over higher-ranked Karol Beck of Slovakia. Elsewhere, Israeli Dudi Sela routed sixth-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-0, 6-1.
