Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova rallied to beat Sabine Lisicki and give defending champion Czech Republic an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Germany in the first round of the Fed Cup on Sunday.
Lisicki took the first set on a tie break, 7-6 (2), but No. 2-ranked Kvitova came from behind for the second time in two days to claim the second 6-4 before seeing out the decisive set 6-1.
The Czech Republic will next play Ukraine or Italy in the semifinals April 21-22.
Julia Goerges has the chance to salvage German pride against Iveta Benesova later Sunday, before the doubles match featuring Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Angelique Kerber against Czech pair Lucie Hradecka and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
