Ivan Ljubicic believes Novak Djokovic may opt not to play again this season following his US Open disappointment.

Djokovic has had an incredible year, winning three majors and reaching the final of the other as he pursued a historic calendar Grand Slam.

In the end he came up just short, and he looked visibly drained after losing the US Open final to Daniil Medvedev earlier this month.

After that match, Djokovic told reporters he had “no plan, absolutely nothing” regarding his schedule for the rest of the season.

And Ljubicic, who is part of Roger Federer’s coaching team, believes we may have seen the last of the world number one in 2021.

“As for the question of what I expect for the rest of the year, I would like to see Djokovic in Paris-Bercy and at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin 2021,” Ljubicic said.

“But I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided not to play again in the rest of the season.

Ljubicic is also provided an update on Roger Federer’s current injury situation, confirming he has yet to start practicing again following his third knee surgery in the last 18 months.

“Federer has not yet resumed training,” he said. “At the moment there is no specific program for his return.”
