‘Novak Djokovic is a fighter on the court and a gentleman off it,’ says Mischa Zverev

Novak Djokovic is a ‘legend’ who is on course to win all four Slams this year according to Mischa Zverev after his Roland Garros win. 

Djokovic came back from two sets down to win his second French Open on Sunday, and in doing so became the first man in the Open Era to win more than one title at all four Slams.

It now puts him just one behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the Grand Slam race with 19 major titles and Zverev believes he is on course to win more,  possibly even this year.

“He [Novak] is a legend, and he is on the way to winning all four in the same year,” Zverev told Eurosport.

“I don’t know if it’s going to happen but his achievement is incredible, especially the way he won today, two sets to love down and being outplayed by a much younger Stefanos Tsitsipas.

“To come back and outlast him, be stronger mentally and physically, it was incredible.”

Zverev, who is an active player on the ATP Tour and brother of world number six Alexander Zverev, says he thinks Djokovic is as focused as ever on court, but very much calm and collected off it.

“I was looking at Novak when they were preparing the trophy ceremony and he looked like was getting ready for Wimbledon. He was so focused.

“I think in his mind already he was thinking about who he was going to play at Wimbledon, how am I going play, I need to get ready with my preparation and recovery – he is a machine.

“It’s nice to see Novak can be a real fighter on the court, but a gentleman off the court,” Zverev said of Djokovic.

“He thinks things though – he never feels rushed on the court, he never feels rushed off the court, he’s just in a state of mind where he’s at peace with himself. I am speechless because his performance was incredible.”
