'One last dance,' Dominic Thiem set to play the French Open for one final time
Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

Dominic Thiem  is set to play the French Open for one last time. A few weeks ago, the 30-year-old officially confirmed his retirement. There were already speculations revolving around the same before the Austrian finally confirmed it.

The former US Open champion had cited his injuries to be the main reason. Ever since he won the 2020 US Open, he has not been in his element. Due to recurring wrist injuries, the Austrian has been out of the game, and not been able to come back to his best.

After having created a challenge for himself to be back in the Top 50 soon, Thiem realized that he would not be able to and prematurely announced his retirement. He will hang up his racket after this season. Luckily for the fans, the Austrian is set to play the French Open for the last time.

Although there is a lot of uncertainty around his game, the fans would hope that the Austrian can go the distance on his last chance at the Open. “ One last dance,” posted Dominic Thiem on X along with a few snaps of his practice. He was seen flexing his moves on the courts of Roland Garros.

Dominic Thiem set to begin his qualifying challenge tomorrow

After having announced his retirement, the Austrian will play his last ever French Open from tomorrow. Due to a huge fall in rankings, the former US Open winner is forced to play in the qualifiers

He will play against Franco Agamenone in the first match of the qualifiers and is forced to win everything to make it to the main draw. Also playing the qualifiers is Diego Schwartzman, who also announced his retirement after this year.

He will have to get past Ugo Blanchet to move ahead in the qualifiers. While everyone there would hope to make it to the main draw, the two former top-ranked players will be desperate, especially on their last run in this tournament. Fans would also cheer on the players in their last few matches and are sure to give them a good exit.
