In a recent interview, Spanish player Roberto Bautista Agut opened up about a major accident that he suffered in 2023 after falling from a horse. The accident took place back in July, and as a result, he was unable to play in the latter half of the year but has now fully recovered. He will take on Carlos Alcaraz tomorrow at Murcia to bring an end to his season.

Horse riding is Roberto Bautista Agut’s special hobby, and it’s during one of his horse riding sessions that the accident took place. He was galloping when the horse tripped and fell on his foot. He was able to save the entirety of his leg, but his foot was crushed

I broke my fibula bone, the one next to the tibia. I was riding a horse, tripped, and fell on my left foot. I was able to get my leg out in time, but not my foot and he crushed it, which is the weight of a horse. Furthermore, we were galloping so the blow was even stronger. Roberto Bautista Agut said

However, now that he has fully recovered from the accident, Bautista has started riding horses again. He said that he has never been afraid of horseback riding, and this accident has not scared him. He has been riding since he was just 10, and this was his first accident ever.

Roberto Bautista Agut talks about falling out of the Top 50 ATP rankings

Roberto Bautista Agut said that one of the biggest negatives of his accident was that during this time, he fell out of the Top 50 ATP rankings as he was not able to play. As a result, the Spaniard will no longer be seeded in the draws. This is a major change for Bautista.

It changes a lot because there will be tournaments in which you will play well and you will have a tough opponent and you may win or lose, and you will leave with the feeling that you have not had a great tournament. It's something you have to go through. I hope I get back into the numbers to be seeded. It is my big goal for next year. He said.

He will now try to give a good performance against Carlos Alcaraz to end his 2023 season. The Spaniard will hope to make a comeback in 2024, and he wishes to enter the Top 30 ATP rankings by the end of 2024.
