No. 1-seeded Serena Williams fought off No. 2 Victoria Azarenka 7-5, 6-7 (6), 6-1 to capture her fifth U.S. Open title Sunday night. Williams spent almost the same amount of time fussing with her skirt ans she did playing tennis as both players had to deal with strong swirling winds at Flushing Meadows.
Azarenka was not as bothered by her skirt, but she had to look across the court and see Williams’ wild eyebrows. Hopefully Serena spends part of her $3.6 million prize on a new eyebrow threader…or maybe a new Sharpie.
Serena’s win gives us 17 career Grand Slam championship titles, the sixth-most in tennis history, one behind Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. It may be her last if she doesn’t get this issue corrected.
