PLAYERS: Serena Williams
Serena Williams has issued a new apology for what she called ''insensitive and misinformed comments'' she made about the victim in the Steubenville, Ohio, rape case. In a Rolling Stone story posted online last week, Williams said the 16-year-old girl ''shouldn't have put herself in that position.'' The next day, Williams apologized in a statement. She also apologized at a news conference Sunday. On Monday night, a day before Williams plays her first-round match at Wimbledon, she released another statement on her website, saying she also wanted to ''extend an apology to the millions of sexual assault victims in America whose pain could have been compounded by my inappropriate remarks.'' Sexual assault, Williams wrote, ''is never acceptable and never the fault of the victim.''

Serena Williams apologizes for ‘insensitive’ rape comments

It took a few days, but Serena Williams has finally issued a real apology for comments she made in a Rolling Stone article about the highly-publicized Steubenville rape case. Williams did not blame the victim — a 16-year-old West Virginia girl — for being raped, but she was quoted in the Rolling Stone article as [...]

Serena Williams is apologizing to a lot of people these days

Serena Williams is really offending a lot of people these days as a (presumably) unintended result of her Rolling Stone interview. First, there was everything wrong with what she said about the Steubenville rape case. Then, she apparently made a comment to her sister, Venus, over the phone about Maria Sharapova's dating life: "There are people who live, breathe...

Maria Sharapova Rips Serena Williams Boyfriend Choices; Serena Apologizes

“Keep your paws off of married men home wrecker!”  Well Maria Sharapova didn’t say that exactly, but that pretty much sums it up. After beating Maria in the French Open, Serena Williams did an interview with the Rolling Stone, where she appeared to take a few subliminal shots at her arch nemesis. Below is an excerpt from the article. “There are people who live, breathe...

Serena Williams Dominates in Opening Match at Wimbledon

(June 25, 2013) Serena Williams began the defense of her Wimbledon crown in dominating style by conquering Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella 6-1, 6-3 in a first round match on Tuesday on Centre Court. Williams did not lose a point on her serve in the first set which captured in 19 minutes. The 92nd ranked Minella took [...]

Quite simply, Serena's at fault

Serena Williams and her handlers may need to reach out to ESPN and orchestrate a public-relations fiasco as embarrassing as "The Decision." I'm serious. It's clear now "The Decision" is the best thing to ever happen to LeBron James. "The Decision" and the devastating backlash it created caused James to search his soul and emerge a better man...

Serena says she tried to apologize

Serena Williams says she offered an apology to Maria Sharapova two days before Sharapova took a verbal swipe at Williams over comments in a magazine article.

Loss ends best Wimbledon storyline

Looks like Maria Sharapova won't be invited to the cool parties OR win Wimbledon. With a whole lot of yelling and screaming, poof, there went the fun we were expecting for two weeks at Wimbledon. Sharapova lost 6-3, 6-4 in the second round Wednesday to Michelle Larcher de Brito. They are two of the loudest grunters on tour. No more snickering comments back and forth with Serena...

US optimism more than blind hope

By now, two days into a tennis major, the US media usually have rushed in to talk about all the new hope in American tennis. Why the rush? Because the future is now! No, really it's because in two more days, everyone but Serena Williams usually would be out. So it's now or never. And I'm usually ridiculing the rush. But this time, for the first time in years, the hope...
